Music that
moves between
worlds.

Orchestral, chamber, vocal and screen music shaped by colour, rhythm and a strong dramatic instinct.

About

Judit Varga

Vienna-based composer with an international concert and film music practice, whose work spans orchestral, chamber, solo and vocal compositions, with performances in international concert halls and festivals.

Her music moves naturally between classical tradition, experimental currents and the dramatic worlds of film and stage. Recurring loops, kinetic energy and shifting perspectives shape a language that feels at once familiar, playful and unmistakably contemporary.

SUBMERSUS · Classical:NEXT Innovation Award 2026

Innovation Award2026

The audiovisual work SUBMERSUS was selected for the 2026 Classical:NEXT Innovation Award shortlist, recognising its exploration of human–machine performance and AI-generated moving image.

Article

In SUBMERSUS, an acoustic piano and a computer-controlled Disklavier form a virtuosic human–machine duo. The same duality extends into the film: human concepts are developed through AI tools and completed through human editing and composition.

Classical:NEXT selected the project for its ten-project 2026 Innovation Award shortlist. The award recognises projects that advance classical music through bold, considered experimentation in ideas, planning and practice.

An international Nominating Committee of journalists and an industry expert proposes projects from members’ home countries and abroad. The committee votes to form a shortlist of ten; registered Classical:NEXT delegates then choose the final recipients in an online vote.

SUBMERSUS received its world premiere on 1 February 2025 in Budapest at the Transparent Sound Festival.
